This blog is to bring together parents and families that have concerns, questions, and issues about the care their medically complex children need, do not receive, or are reduced due to reductions by medicaid and other state agencies. Together we can make changes!

Thank you for sharing the blog. I'll be sure to pass along to other parents. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteYES... Thanks Sue for starting this... It is an excellent way for us all to communicate with all the multitude of changes that have been thrown our way.... I just sent a letter to the chief Medicaid attorney, along with the medicaid Administrator about how these changes occurred and how they are affecting my medical son.... with one of the changes, Nicholas is required to remain at home while a nurse is here caring for him... The new AHCA actions, actually restrain my medically fragile son, and imprison him to his residence. I feel this not only appalling, but inexcusable, malicious, and inhumane to do to children. Not just any children, but the very most vulnerable children on the face of the earth. To me, it's no less than crating a dog... it's definitely not the lease restrictive environment. This is going directly against the American Disabilities Act, which states, “that disabled individuals should be put in the least restrictive environment. gotta run for now, I get to have dinner at a normal dinner time! Love to hear from some of you so I can add your comments to my next correspondence to Tallahassee, or Washington...

ReplyDeleteThanks for starting this blog. I also am appalled that our children are being shut up in our homes so the community can no longer see them. My daughter gets depressed when she's holed up in the house for too long. Somehow we have to get the media involved. Another thing that just happened to us today, is that I had to make a choice between my RN's and LPN's! Simply because of a billing issue?!?!?! That's incredulous also! We're looking at losing nurses who have been with my daughter for 5 - 13 years!!! The agency hasn't been able to replace even one of our nurses since last December. They're all looking for easier cases, not that I blame them.
ReplyDeleteI was writing this to the AHCA administrator last sunday....
ReplyDeleteI just wanted you to know that today, my medically fragile son was invited to a birthday party.
(sadly, he is not invited to many, because he is medically disabled) Although his nurse of many years, wanted to take him, he will not be going, because of the new regulations that restrict him to his home.
I also want you to know how much this is affecting my child's behavior. He is very often agitated, rocks back and forth, screams out loudly, He is non-verbal, but we all know what he is saying... and it is very disturbing to watch.
It’s Sunday, October 21, 2012, the first cool day of fall here in the Tampa bay area, absolutely gorgeous outside, yet Nicholas will remain indoors as stated in mandatory meeting last month at our home health agency.
PS... I hope you are enjoying some outdoor activities.
Respectfully,
Julie Ann Calandro
